September 2011

Well it’s been a very busy has 3 months.  A big thank you to all those that have recommended friend, family and those you've bumped into in a queue. Liz has had a little girl had, Pyper, and we wish them both well. Anna Leworthy has joined us in reception covering for Liz’s maternity leave.

We now have a Facebook page and a rapidly growing number of ‘friends’. Thanks to Anna for setting it up and running it.

My gamble on a Great British summer in Devon didn’t turn out as well as planned. Luckily, the week we had off in Cornwall and the Forest of Dean at the end of the holiday’s was gloriously sunny.

I've written a new article for the South Molton News about the NICE clinical guidelines for non-specific lower back pain. It will be available on our 'Chiropractic Corner' page for you to read at your leisure. Every month, we write an article about a variety of health matters, covering such issues as knee pain, balance problems and pelvic disorders.

I've now run two free seminars entitled ' Good Gardening for Bad Backs' which have been well attended and great fun. We're hoping to upload some course information in the near future.

Steven Rule has settled well into the clinic and is proving a valuable asset. He certainly helped my shoulder yesterday which I'd aggravated by surfing over the weekend.

Fran Hardiman will be leaving us at the end of the month and we hope to be adding a new chiropractor to our friendly team in the near future. Her last working day will be Saturday 4th of June.

Having recently sponsored 'The Easter Concert' in Witheridge, I'm advertising with the Exmoor Foxhounds point-to-point steeple chase at Bratton Down. It takes place on Saturday 4th of June, first race at 2pm. Hope to see you there!

Best wishes

Julien

Christmas has come and gone along with the snow and cold weather.  I glad to report that the injuries from slipping on ice and snow shovelling have started to decrease.  It to seam that North Devon is now a less slippery place!  The big news that I've been quite quiet about is that the clinic has now been open for one year.  A very BIG THANK YOU to all those involved in making the practice work, you know who you are.

On a more seasonal note, I'm in the final processes of putting together my talk series for this year.  The first is to be held at the clinic on Wednesday the 3rd March 2011 at 10pm and is titled;

GOOD GARDENING TECHNIQUES FOR BAD BACKS.

Places are limited to 10 at a time.  If you're interested give Dawn a call and book your place.  I intend to give this talk 4-5 times this year so I should get to all those who would like to know.

I asked Fran and Steven to prepare talks for March and April as well and I'll put the titles up as soon as I know what they are.

Beginning to feel like we have moved into a snow globe. Our children have been thrilled and disappointed in equal measure. Thrilled because there are only eight days until Christmas and the farmyard looks like a Christmas card and disappointed because we have a four wheel drive which means no days off school.  Despite the snow, the clinic is very busy as the festive season gets into full swing.  Remember that the clinic is open right up to lunchtime on Christmas Eve.

Well it's been a funny old day as the snow has prevented many patients from getting to the clinic.  Never ones to rest on our laurels, Dawn, Sue and I have been busy finishing the Christmas decorations and making sure we are all up to date on our paper work! For those worried that the snow might prevent us from getting to the clinic; rest assured. The Discovery is all serviced and ready to go, so I will always be able to make it in.  If the snow fall is more than 2ft then I might have to run in, but I'll get there eventually! Take care out there, I've seen two who fell over on the ice today. JB

Currently composing next article for South Molton News.  If anyone has a specific question, now would be a good time to post a question on the guest book page.

Thanks

For those who bought some apple juice from myself at "The South Molton Apple Day" last week here is the recipe for the "Spiced Hot Drink"

750ml Bramley Blaster Apple Juice

1 pint water

Half a lemon into half slices

Half an orange into half slices

2 teaspoons of honey

5 teaspoons golden caster sugar

Sliced fresh ginger (3cm x 1 cm when peeled)

Pinch of All Spice

4 cloves

Half a cinnamon stick

Optional

Shot of brandy

Combine all the above ingredients in a large pan and warm until almost boiling.  Simmer for 5 to 10 minutes and ladle into mugs.  For the full spiced version, add a shot of Brandy and a twist of black freshly ground black pepper.

Enjoy

Julien, Dawn and Sue will be away for the half term week of 25th - 29th of October but will be back in on the 1st of November.  In the meantime Fran and Liz will be holding the fort. In addition we have a new chiropractic associate joining us; Steve Rule. Back from a great holiday walking in the welsh hills.  Claire and I did 40 miles from Monmouth to Hay on Wye up the Monnow Valley.  Lovely.  Ask for details next time I see you.  Typically for back to work and the start of the school term the sun is shining!

Just a short note to say that I'm taking a well earned holiday at the end of the month.  I'll be away from Monday 23rd August and back in clinic on Thursday 2nd September.  Fran will be in the clinic and more than able to deal with any emergencies should you need her.

The next article for the South Molton News will be out soon and is about Osteoarthritis in the neck.

Looking ahead, the next  talk is scheduled for Wednesday the 15th of  September.  This is the third outing of "Lower Back pain and Chiropractic".  It's aimed at new and existing patients who wish to learn more about the lower back and how chiropractic adjustment work.  If you're would like to attend, please contact Dawn at the clinic on 01769 572 912.
